AlumniAS Level Mathematics

Cedar College · 2017

I studied AS Level Mathematics (P1 and S1) from Sir Shahab Yaqub at Cedar in 2017, and I can honestly say he is one of the best Maths teachers I’ve ever had.

Statistics (S1) was considered one of the more challenging papers, but Sir Shahab had a way of explaining concepts that made everything much easier to understand. He focused on building strong concepts instead of just teaching us how to solve questions, and that made a huge difference in my confidence.

One thing I still remember is the compiled past paper question book he gave us after every topic. I would solve those questions, bring my queries back to class, and he would patiently explain everything until it made sense. Those practice sets, along with his past paper sessions, extra classes, and workshops, played a huge role in helping me prepare well.

What really stood out was the way he taught us to approach and break down difficult problems. Rather than memorizing methods, he encouraged us to think logically and solve problems step by step. Even today, as a Civil Engineer, I find myself using the same mindset when tackling complex engineering problems in my professional career. That way of thinking has stayed with me ever since.

His classes were always engaging, and they were among the few classes I genuinely looked forward to attending. His teaching style was very well-structured, and the classroom environment kept everyone focused and motivated.

Thanks to his guidance and teaching, I achieved an A in my AS Level Mathematics. Even after studying at NUST, I can honestly say that Sir Shahab remains one of the finest teachers I’ve had. His dedication, professionalism, and ability to simplify difficult concepts left a lasting impression on me, and I’m truly grateful to have been his student.
